Honoring Andrew Roberts by Empowering the Next Generation of LGBTQ+ Storytellers

An artist, creator, and passionate advocate for the LGBTQ+ community, Andrew co-founded the Virginia Queer Film Festival alongside his husband, Eric Hause, with a vision of creating a platform where LGBTQ+ voices could be seen, heard, and celebrated. His commitment to uplifting marginalized communities and championing authentic storytelling continues to shape the festival’s mission today.

To honor Andrew’s legacy, the Virginia Queer Film Festival established the Andrew Roberts Scholarship Fund—an annual scholarship supporting undergraduate and graduate student filmmakers working on projects that explore the diversity of the LGBTQ+ community. The scholarship places special emphasis on supporting LGBTQ+ filmmakers and stories that amplify Southern LGBTQ+ voices, helping ensure these important perspectives continue to reach new audiences.
